Mechanical Design and Analysis Engineer (Solar Array and Battery)– Satellites Systems Company: The Boeing Company The Integrated Design Engineering Organization is seeking a highly motivated Satellite Solar Array and Battery Mechanical Design Engineer, Mid-Career or Senior level, to join the Space Mission Systems Satellite Engineering Team. This candidate will be a part of a high-performing engineering team that is immersed in development and high non-recurring projects. The candidate will be accountable to provide all aspects of mechanical design engineering support of the solar array and battery technologies, which include designing substrates, yoke structures, panel layouts, battery packs, etc. Additionally, the candidate will be accountable for the electro-mechanical architecture of battery and solar array designs, and the ability to support programs as a responsible engineering authority (REA). The candidate will be required to work closely with our Solar Array and Battery REA and Analysis team members as well as our partnering organizations from Systems Engineering, Stress, Dynamics, Materials & Processes, Production Engineering, Quality, Supplier Management, and Spectrolab. This candidate will need to work closely with their respective Technical Lead Engineers, Management, and Program Leadership to support the program deliverables. This role will include accountability for all Satellite Solar Array technologies supporting Government and Commercial Satellites with some additional support across other space applications. The candidate should have experience working with Solar Array and/or Battery technologies (substrates, cells, panels, integration, system requirements, etc). The candidate must exemplify The Boeing Behaviors in day-to-day operations. This position is in El Segundo, California. Primary responsibilities include: Lead functional teams as potential Technical Lead Engineer, Boeing Designated Expert, or REA Lead project planning and ensure execution on program commitments as a potential Solar Array REA driving the design, build, test, and installation of solar array substrates, solar cells, panels, and wings to the spacecraft Support/Lead design configurations by following regulatory and company approved processes and procedures. Perform solar array analysis (deployment, stowed/deployed wing predicts, power analysis, etc) to support the missions team Develop mechanical and electrical designs (mechanical/electrical layouts, yoke/structures, harnesses, etc) using Creo and Autocad implementing appropriate Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, DFMAT, critical clearance, and material selection processes Support/Lead qualification of solar panels and wings by driving test program, analyzing all relevant data, working with appropriate functional teams, drafting qualification test reports, and presenting to internal and external customers Driving critical RCCA investigation and preparing/presenting Failure Review Board packages to internal and external customers. Work closely with chief engineers, program and functional leadership, and other SMEs to get alignment on proper containment, root cause, and corrective actions This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location. This position requires a U.S. Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
