Employment Type: Full-Time (W2)
Location: Remote
Salary Range: $70,000–$80,000 annually
About the Role
We're looking for a Creative Director to own the visual and experiential quality of our custom learning solutions. You'll set the creative vision for every project, lead a small team of designers, and partner closely with Instructional Designers and developers to ensure learning experiences are not only effective, but genuinely engaging and beautifully executed.
This is a hands-on leadership role; part creative strategist, part team leader, and part hands-on collaborator.
What You'll Do
- Define and maintain the creative vision, visual style, and design standards across eLearning, instructor-led training (ILT), job aids, and print projects.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a small team of designers (illustrators, graphic designers, and UI/visual designers), providing feedback, setting priorities, and supporting their professional growth.
- Partner with Instructional Designers early in project planning to translate learning objectives into engaging visual and interactive concepts.
- Collaborate with developers to ensure designs are technically feasible, accessible, and implemented with fidelity across authoring tools and platforms (e.g., Storyline, other authoring tools, or custom HTML5 builds).
- Review and approve storyboards, mockups, and final deliverables for visual quality, brand consistency, and instructional clarity.
- Develop and evolve design systems, style guides, and templates to improve efficiency and consistency across projects.
- Present creative concepts and design rationale to clients and stakeholders, incorporating feedback while maintaining design integrity.
- Stay current on eLearning design trends, interaction patterns, motion graphics, animation techniques, and accessibility best practices.
- Contribute hands-on design work when needed.
What You'll Bring
- 6+ years of design experience, including 2+ years in a creative leadership or people management role.
- A portfolio demonstrating exceptional visual design, illustration, and/or interactive media work. eLearning experience is preferred but not required.
- Proven experience translating instructional content into engaging visual and interactive learning experiences.
- Strong understanding of visual design principles, typography, motion design, and UI/UX fundamentals.
- Experience managing and mentoring designers while providing actionable feedback and fostering professional growth.
- Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with Instructional Designers, developers, project managers, and clients.
- Strong presentation and communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate and defend creative decisions.
- Familiarity with WCAG 2.1 and Section 508 accessibility standards as they relate to visual and interactive design.
- Bachelor's degree in Design, Visual Communication, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Nice to Have
- Experience with motion graphics and animation tools such as Adobe After Effects.
- Working knowledge of eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise, or Adobe Captivate, and an understanding of the design-to-development handoff process.
- Experience building, growing, or scaling a creative/design team.
What Success Looks Like
- Learning solutions are visually distinctive, on-brand, and elevate the learner experience beyond standard templates.
- Design and development teams collaborate efficiently with fewer rework cycles due to clear creative direction.
- Designers are engaged, growing professionally, and consistently producing high-quality work.
- Clients view the creative team as a strategic partner, not simply an execution resource.
