$120,744.00 - $145,412.80 Annual Minimum Age Requirement: Job Description: Idaho Power, located in the vibrant community of Boise, Idaho, is seeking a motivated Senior Data Engineer to join our Information Technology team. What does a Senior Data Engineer do for us? The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data solutions that translate complex business processes into a properly structured medallion architecture (bronze, silver, and gold layers). Leveraging tooling within Microsoft Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, and Power BI, the engineer develops robust data pipelines, integrates data from diverse sources, and ensures high data quality, consistency, and performance across each stage of data refinement. This role requires strong expertise in data modeling and transformation practices, including dimensional modeling techniques, enabling the progression of raw data into curated, business-ready datasets that support efficient analytics, and self-service BI across the organization. The Senior Data Engineer collaborates closely with business stakeholders, analysts, and data scientists to understand analytics needs and transform them into optimized data models and semantic layers. They utilize modern Microsoft data platform capabilities—including dataflows, notebooks, pipelines, and lakehouse/warehouse architectures—to deliver reliable and scalable solutions. Additionally, the role involves performance tuning, data governance, Source Control, and continuous improvement of data processes to enable accurate, timely insights through Power BI dashboards and enterprise reporting solutions. A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE Knowledge of: Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL/ELT) processes and tools such as Azure Data Factory / Synapse Pipelines, Microsoft Fabric Data Pipelines, Power BI Dataflows Gen2, Power Query, etc. Medallion architecture design patterns (bronze, silver, gold) and lakehouse/warehouse concepts Relational and distributed data systems, including dimensional modeling and semantic layer design BI visualization and reporting tools, primarily Power BI, including dataset modeling and performance optimization Azure and Microsoft analytics ecosystem, including Azure Synapse and Microsoft Fabric Data governance, lineage, and security concepts within modern data platforms Enterprise solution development practices and tools (Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Agile/Kanban methodologies) Skills in: Strong SQL development for data transformation and optimization
Experience
with Python and/or Spark for data engineering workloads Data modeling for analytics, including transforming curated data into business-ready structures Power BI development, including data modeling, Data Analysis Expressions (DAX), and visualization best practices Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement Problem solving, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis in complex data environments Organization and prioritization across multiple data initiatives Ability to: Work proactively in a collaborative team environment with minimal supervision while owning deliverables end-to-end Translate complex business processes into scalable data solutions within a medallion architecture framework Adapt quickly to evolving technologies within the Microsoft data ecosystem Learn and understand business domains to align data models with organizational needs Think critically, diagnose issues across distributed systems, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders Be resourceful, resilient, and continuously improve data processes and platform performance MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education/
Experience
BS in Computer Science and 3 years of directly relevant experience and/or formal, targeted hands-on training OR 7 years of directly relevant experience and/or formal, targeted hands-on training Licenses & Certifications: Project Management and/or programming language certification desirable PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people.
