Production Engineer - 18 months contract

This role is responsible for preparing, updating, and maintaining production documentation including Work Instructions, rework instructions, NCRs, ECNs, and production records. You will ensure all documentation is accurate, controlled, and aligned with manufacturing processes to support efficient and compliant production. You will work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to translate technical requirements into clear, structured, and user-friendly documentation for the production floor. The role also supports ongoing updates driven by engineering changes, non-conformances, and process improvements. They will: • Develop a broad understanding of the Alcon products, their underlying technologies, and their application at Alcon. • Assist in meeting any product-based objectives set by Engineering, Production, Quality, Regulatory, and Marketing. • Work collaboratively across all disciplines to take products from development to mass production and general availability in the market. • Analyse new and existing engineering technologies and apply them in the testing of manufactured products. Key responsibilities include: Key responsibilities include: Apply statistical analysis techniques to monitor, control, and improve manufacturing processes by analysing production data, conducting Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Measurement System Analysis (MSA/GR&R) studies, identifying sources of process variation, and supporting data‑based decision‑making to improve product quality, yield, and overall process capability. Implement, maintain, and continuously improve process control systems, including SPC and MSA frameworks, to ensure production processes are stable, repeatable, well‑controlled, and capable of meeting quality and performance requirements. Perform production capacity and throughput analysis to evaluate current manufacturing performance, identify constraints and bottlenecks, and support informed production planning, prioritisation, and risk mitigation decisions. Actively support day‑to‑day production operations by participating in daily production stand‑up meetings, clearly communicating priorities, production status, risks, and required actions. Proactively escalate and communicate issues impacting safety, quality, delivery, or production capacity to the appropriate stakeholders, while working collaboratively across Engineering, Quality, NPI, Systems, R&D, and Production teams to drive timely and effective resolution. · Solid understanding and practical experience doing root‑cause analysis (finding the real problem, not just quick fixes). · Proven experience improving production efficiency, yield, or process stability. A continuous improvement mindset — looks for better ways of doing things and follows them through. Willingness to learn and adapt as processes, products, and priorities change. Skills & Experiences: · Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, or similar). · At least 3 years’ experience supporting manufacturing or production in an engineering role. · Strong hands‑on experience working on the production floor, supporting builds, test, or calibration. · Proven troubleshooting skills in a manufacturing environment.
