Job Description UW Medical Center–Northwest has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Nurse Manager/RN3 to join us in our Main Operating Room, Surgical Services. WORK SCHEDULE: 100% FTE Days 40 hours/week POSITION HIGHLIGHTS Assists with Assistant Nurse Manager operational and leadership duties as applicable Collaborates closely with the Nurse Manager, RN3 peers, and Surgical Services staff DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION This individual will serve as a clinical expert of perioperative nursing, coordinate and participate in the orientation of new RN team members, establish and facilitate processes which enable team members to acquire new skills, knowledge and clinical competencies and serve as a role model of perioperative nursing excellence. This candidate will assist the Nurse Manager of Surgical Services in maintaining high customer service standards for the surgical team by updating and maintain provider resource maps, adherence to and implementing quality measures, and serve as supervisor over hospital assistant staff . BASIC FUNCTION Provide professional nursing care; provide leadership for specific program areas and unit functions such as developing education programs, acting as clinical resource for staff, and coordinating daily operations; assist the Nurse Manager to develop, maintain, and evaluate the on-going operations of a clinical area. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Under general supervision, perform specific leadership functions related to clinical practice, education and management such as developing unit goals, orientation programs, and standards of care; Under general direction, provide patient care and coordination of services through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of safe therapeutic care. TYPICAL WORK Provide a role model for staff by demonstrating and documenting for assigned patients completion of: Assessment and nursing diagnosis of patients; Care planning; Implementation of safe nursing care; Evaluation of patient responses to nursing care; Patient teaching; Patient advocacy; Discharge and transfer planning; Admission, discharge and transfer processes; Coordinate patients’ care with other hospital departments and disciplines; Promote effective communication among staff and patients to assure optimal patient outcomes; Assist with the planning and/or implementation of educational programs for staff and patients; Identify patient care, staff, and resource problems and take necessary steps toward problem resolution; Provide feedback and guidance to staff; observe, review, and evaluate staff performance; Assist in the development, maintenance and evaluation of systems to support nursing care delivery such as patient care documentation and emergency response procedures; Provide input into the development and implementation of the budget; Serve as the unit charge nurse as assigned; MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Current WA RN license or valid multistate RN license AND two years of professional surgical nursing experience. Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
