Join the Medicaid and Long-Term Care team at DHHS as a Medicaid Policy and Communications Intern. This internship offers hands-on experience supporting Medicaid communications, stakeholder engagement, policy messaging, and external communication materials. The intern will assist with communication activities related to state and federal Medicaid program initiatives. This role is ideal for a student interested in healthcare, public health, health communications, public policy, public administration, or government affairs. The intern will work alongside Medicaid policy staff, communications partners, program specialists, and operational teams to help translate complex policy and program information into clear, accurate, and accessible materials for external audiences. Responsibilities
Support the development of external communication materials related to Medicaid policy and program updates. Assist with drafting and maintaining various chapters of the Medicaid Provider Manual. Assist with meeting planning, member support, meeting material preparation, and coordinating follow ups to support Medicaid’s Advisory Committees. Support communication planning for Medicaid-related implementation activities. Help identify key messages, audience-specific considerations, and potential communication gaps. Conduct background research to support accurate Medicaid messaging and stakeholder education. Assist with drafting fact sheets, FAQs, talking points, stakeholder updates, presentations, one-pagers, flyers, website content, and public-facing summaries. Help prepare communication materials for providers, advocacy organizations, community partners, sister agencies, and other external stakeholders. Support stakeholder engagement activities, including meeting preparation, agenda development, notes, follow-up items, and tracking stakeholder questions. Assist with reviewing Medicaid policy information and translating technical content into plain language. Organize and maintain communication trackers, stakeholder lists, project materials, and shared resources. Minimum
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two-to-four-year institution) OR recently graduated (within one year) from an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two-to-four-year institution).
Preferred Qualifications
Interest in Medicaid, public health, health communications, public policy, healthcare administration, public administration, journalism, public relations, communications, or a related field. Interest in healthcare, public benefits, healthcare systems, government communications, or stakeholder engagement.
Experience
drafting written materials for broad audiences, such as newsletters, briefs, social media content, presentations, reports, or public-facing summaries. Ability to translate complex information into plain language. Comfort reviewing source materials and identifying key takeaways for external audiences. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, or similar tools. Graduate-level students or advanced undergraduate students with an interest in Medicaid communications, public health messaging, or public sector engagement are encouraged to apply.
