Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (to be conferred by start date) or comparable level of experience and education. General knowledge of college and university programs, majors, admission requirements and processes. Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills to include Internet browsers, social media platforms, and Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook. Demonstrated ability to effectively organize, prioritize, and navigate multiple projects providing a high-level of attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and to accurately disseminate information to a diverse population of faculty, staff and students. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member utilizing a high level of interpersonal skills. Assistant Dean Level: Prior experience, typically two or more years of admission or related professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience

in a selective liberal arts & sciences college/university setting as a student and/or employee. Previous experience supervising student volunteers, serving in leadership capacity within student organizations, and/or event programming experience. Previous experience working in an admission or college-counseling office, including as a student or volunteer. Fluency in a foreign language and/or experience abroad. Conditions of Employment: As part of recruitment travel, this position often requires individual driving as well as group travel, including evenings and travel in congested/heavy-traffic situations. Must be able to maintain a valid Driver’s License. Occasional overnight travel is required. Periodic evening and weekend work is required. Description: Represent the university to students, parents, high school counselors, and the alumni both on and off campus. This includes conducting group information sessions, attending college fairs, and visiting high schools, in addition to responding to individual inquiries about the admission process and the university via phone, email, social media, and in person. Develop outreach efforts customized to their target market by taking into account the unique characteristics and secondary schools within assigned geographic territories. Lead the application review process for one or more regions by conducting thorough, holistic reviews of individual applications, selecting and presenting a number of candidates to the committee, and by contributing to the committee selection process in other regions. This includes making admission decision recommendations to the committee, along with the authority to identify applications strong enough to bypass the standard committee process. The Admission Counselor is expected to manage multiple regional territories during the admission cycle, be well versed on the high schools, regions, test scores, etc. This knowledge is expected to aid in evaluating the strength of the application and determining which applicants to present to the committee. Discretion within regional assignments is expected, including the ability to deny or waitlist an admission candidate without further review. Lead or support one or more project areas including recruitment and yield events focused on diversity and access initiatives. Additional responsibilities may also include, but not limited to, admission marketing and communication, on-campus programming, and supervising student volunteers. The Admission Counselor will be responsible for other duties and projects as assigned and based on office needs.
