Qualifications

Master’s degree in a humanities, STEM, social sciences, or related field.

Experience

in higher education, such as university teaching, student or academic affairs, writing center administration, graduate education, academic success programming, or related field (typically 2+ years). Demonstrated success developing, delivering, or supporting programs for graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, or advanced learners in a higher education setting. Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment, manage complex priorities, and lead programs from planning through implementation and assessment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and campus partners. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to foster cooperative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and institutional stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively in a complex academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge of graduate education, graduate student success, postdoctoral support, and/or professional development best practices.

Experience

teaching and/or tutoring writing and communication in a college or university setting.

Experience

with teaching, instructional design, learning facilitation, academic coaching, or student success programming in a college or university setting.

Experience

developing, managing, or assessing programs, workshops, events, or academic initiatives.

Experience

collecting, interpreting, and reporting program assessment data.

Experience

providing supervision, training, or work direction to students, graduate assistants, staff, or peer leaders. Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities, solve problems independently, and identify creative solutions to challenges. Duties

60% - Graduate Center Program Delivery and Management: Provide leadership, coordination, and management of student-facing Graduate Center programs, including but not limited to the workshop series, Graduate Center Mentoring Program, Graduate Research Symposium, writing retreats, and other academic success initiatives. Design, implement, and continuously improve programs, workshops, and resources that support graduate student academic success, professional development, writing productivity, mentoring, research communication, and degree progress. Collaborate with faculty, academic units, and campus partners in the development, design, and delivery of workshops, courses, programs, and services that support graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Provide high-impact academic success advising and coaching to graduate students, including support related to writing productivity, research progress, professional development, and navigating academic resources. Lead the coordination of professional development support for postdoctoral scholars in partnership with academic units, faculty, and campus stakeholders. Represent the Graduate Center in meetings, programs, and collaborative initiatives related to graduate student and postdoctoral scholar support. Exercise independent judgment in resolving programmatic issues, prioritizing student-facing services, and recommending improvements to program delivery. 15% - Program Assessment: Oversee program and needs assessments to ensure Graduate Center programming is aligned with student needs, postdoctoral scholar needs, and university priorities. Gather, maintain, analyze, and interpret data on Graduate Center program participation, satisfaction, learning outcomes, and overall effectiveness. Use assessment findings to recommend program improvements, identify service gaps, and inform strategic planning. Collaborate with the Center Director to create reports, summaries, and presentations for internal stakeholders. Support the development of assessment practices that demonstrate the Center’s impact on graduate student success, postdoctoral support, and institutional research priorities. 15% - Center Administration and Management: Oversee day-to-day operations of the Graduate Center in collaboration with the Director, including program logistics, communications, scheduling, student-facing services, and coordination of Center activities. Provide functional supervision, training, workflow direction, and performance feedback for two or more graduate assistants. Establish and maintain processes that support effective program delivery, participant communication, event planning, and operational continuity. Oversee the Graduate Center website and online calendar to ensure information is accurate, accessible, timely, and aligned with Center priorities. Coordinate with campus partners and internal stakeholders to support Center operations, program visibility, and student engagement. 10% - Professional Learning and Development: Engage in ongoing professional learning and development to ensure the Center is aligned with best practices and emerging trends in graduate education, postdoctoral support, academic success, writing productivity, mentoring, and professional development. Participate in relevant professional organizations, conferences, trainings, and networks to strengthen Graduate Center programming and services. Monitor trends and promising practices in graduate education and postdoctoral support to inform program development and continuous improvement. Contribute to the advancement of W&M’s research reputation by supporting high-quality graduate and postdoctoral development initiatives.
